Team 31 made it to the Postville checkpoint at 5:33am. This checkpoint is a 12 hour layover and we will not see them unless we have to send our support team up to help them. The teams will rest for 12 hours and I am sure they will need to. After their 12 hours are up they are off to the next checkpoint which is Makkovik and then to Rigolet. We see them here at the Goosebay checkpoint after Rigolet. We don’t see our team for long. They come in, sign out to get off the clock, and then they go eat and go to bed. They racers all stay together; they do not come to the motels with us. Once they have signed out, they can not touch their snowmobiles until their 12 hours are up. And all the layovers are for a different amount of time. The support team is not allowed to touch the racers snowmobiles at any time. The snowmobiles are impounded by the Cain’s Quest officials. They are everywhere and keep good control of this race. All the Cain’s Quest volunteers are amazing. Lots of hours and at all hours of the day and night. The Cain’s Quest website received over 25, 000 hits the day the race started! This is a very intense race and is definately not just about who is the fastest, but who is smart, has durable snowmobiles and can take riding for as long as 16 hours or more at a time. There is rough terrain with lots of snow, hard drifts and cold weather. At 5:30 pm Labrador time you will be able to start tracking team 31 again off the Cain’s Quest website. They will be off to the next checkpoint. Keep routing for Team Grip N Rip!!!

Dear Tim and Eric,
Great job with the race! My dad hasn’t slept much, he’s been tracking the race the whole time. It must be hard not sleeping all that much. It’s great you have the opportunity to do this race, and be in fourth for most of it on your first time! We’ve all been crossing our fingers that you’ll do well in the end. Good luck!

Sabotage on the way through, all sleds ordered back to goose bay and a restart tomorrow at the same time!! Route Issues
Labrador City, NL – March 17, 2009 – At approximately 13:30 this afternoon teams came upon cut trees felled across a section of the route which made this particular area impassable. Consequently teams were forced to turn back to Checkpoint 11 (Goose Bay) after being unsuccessful in finding another route. As a result of this situation, the Cain’s Quest Committee has met to discuss the matter and have decided to pause the race for a 24 hour period and commence the race from Checkpoint 11 at the same times and order as planned today.
We would like to thank the teams for their patience and understanding in this matter and wish them all good luck and a safe finish.

Great job this afternoon hopping up into 3rd place before the whole dibocle. I immediately called the fab shop and had words with your two head mechanics, and explained the Mini-Mac’s or at least one frozen beaver should have been packed. Rest up, Ride Hard, and remember there’s allot of people around the area pulling for you.
It’s Destiny, your right where you want to be, keep reeling them in and just pick them off one at a time….

Everyone’s resting comfortably for now, what a long lay over for those teams the came in this afternoon, they can’t leave till midnight or better Thursday am ?
